In recent years, civil society figures and NGOs engaged in search and rescue operations at sea have been increasingly stigmatized, targeted, and criminalized for their work defending the rights of migrants and refugees. The video interview conducted by Valeria Solarino recounts the case of Sean Binder, a young German activist accused of aiding and abetting irregular immigration. He has been under investigation since 2018 and was recently acquitted of all charges in what has been called one of the largest trials of its kind in the history of criminalizing solidarity.
